Have you ever wondered how your car is able to detect if there is a child in the passenger seat of your car? This is a feature that is controlled by the PPS or Passenger Presence Module. This system is used to detect the size of the occupant in the passenger seat. If it detects a child sitting in the seat, it will not deploy the airbag.

Issue Diagnosis Test 1

Was the passenger seat replaced with a new or old seat? If you replaced the passenger seat then you will need to find the original weight sensor in the old seat and install it on the new seat.

Issue Diagnosis Test 2

If the seat was not changed, you will need to recalibrate the Weight sensor using a scanner that plugs right into the OBD port in the car. Many of the scanners that can read the airbag codes will be able to do this. Then take a look under the seat at all of the wiring to make sure all is connected and no wires are damaged or pinched. Next step is to calibrate/initialize the PPS weight sensor. This is done with a scan tool, there is an option for this in the scan tool under SRS Airbag menu to initialize, calibrate, zero out PPS.

Issue Diagnosis Test 3

The last step for this code if the first two steps absolutely do not work would be replacing the weight sensor. It may be located under the front passenger seat cushion (on the seat, not floor) It could also be mounted to the side of upper back part of the seat.
