The pretesioner tightens the seat belt during certain crashes. Pretensioners may deploy with or without airbag deployment. Depending upon the vehicle, pretensioners may activate in certain frontal, side, rear and/or rollover crashes. For some vehicles pretensioners will deploy if the safety belt is buckled. **Buckle** The buckle pretensioner uses a pyrotechnic gas generator to proper a piston that is attached to the safety belt buckle with a cable. The cable pulls the buckle down toward the seat tightening the belt. ![](https://blog.myairbags.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Imported_Blog_Media/MyAirbags-Seat-Belt-Pretensioner-Repair-Replacment-27-300x215.jpg?width=300&height=215&name=MyAirbags-Seat-Belt-Pretensioner-Repair-Replacment-27-300x215.jpg) ![](https://blog.myairbags.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Imported_Blog_Media/Seat-Belt-Repair-Buckle-Pretensioner-275x300-1-275x300.png?width=275&height=300&name=Seat-Belt-Repair-Buckle-Pretensioner-275x300-1-275x300.png) **Anchor** The anchor pretensioner uses a pyrotechnic gas generator to propel a piston that is attached to the outboard lower safety belt anchor assembly with a cable. The cable pulls the anchor assembly down toward the floor tightening the belt. ![](https://blog.myairbags.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Imported_Blog_Media/MyAirbags-Seat-Belt-Pretensioner-Repair-Replacment-26-300x226.jpg?width=300&height=226&name=MyAirbags-Seat-Belt-Pretensioner-Repair-Replacment-26-300x226.jpg) ![](https://blog.myairbags.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Imported_Blog_Media/Seat-Belt-Repair-Anchor-Pretensioner-203x300-1-203x300.png?width=203&height=300&name=Seat-Belt-Repair-Anchor-Pretensioner-203x300-1-203x300.png) **Retractor**  The retractor pretensioner uses a pyrotechnic device that “backwinds” the retractor spool tightening the belt. Use the same precautions you would for the other SRS inflatable restraint components. There may be power to activate a pretensioner for a short time after the battery is disconnected or the ignition is turned off. ![](https://blog.myairbags.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Imported_Blog_Media/MyAirbags-Seat-Belt-Pretensioner-Repair-Replacment-21-1-300x283.jpg?width=300&height=283&name=MyAirbags-Seat-Belt-Pretensioner-Repair-Replacment-21-1-300x283.jpg) ![](https://blog.myairbags.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Imported_Blog_Media/Seat-Belt-Repair-Retractor-Pretensioner-223x300-1-223x300.png?width=223&height=300&name=Seat-Belt-Repair-Retractor-Pretensioner-223x300-1-223x300.png) There are 3 types of retractor pretensioners - Single Stage (1-Stage) has 1 plug connector - Dual Stage   (2-Stage) has 2 plugs connectors - Triple Stage (3-Stage) has 3 plugs connectors **1 Stage** ![](https://blog.myairbags.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Imported_Blog_Media/MyAirbags-Seat-Belt-Pretensioner-Repair-Single-Stage-1-Stage-300x192.jpg?width=300&height=192&name=MyAirbags-Seat-Belt-Pretensioner-Repair-Single-Stage-1-Stage-300x192.jpg)   **2 Stage (Dual Stage)** ![](https://blog.myairbags.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Imported_Blog_Media/MyAirbags-Seat-Belt-Pretensioner-Repair-2-Stage-Dual-1-300x223.jpg?width=300&height=223&name=MyAirbags-Seat-Belt-Pretensioner-Repair-2-Stage-Dual-1-300x223.jpg)   **3 Stage (Triple Stage)** ![](https://blog.myairbags.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Imported_Blog_Media/Seat-Belt-Triple-Stage-Pretensioner-Repair-MyAirbags-3-Stage-300x200.jpg?width=300&height=200&name=Seat-Belt-Triple-Stage-Pretensioner-Repair-MyAirbags-3-Stage-300x200.jpg) Our services are an alternative to expensive part replacement at the dealership.
